George Cukor was a director from the 1930s to the 1980s. He was best known as a director of women’s pictures and every leading lady in Hollywood wanted to work with him because he captured them at their best. “The Women” is a 1939 film that is noteworthy for having a number of legendary leading ladies like Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford and Rosalind Russell, but also because it had an entirely female cast with no male actors appearing onscreen.
