As we wrap up the series we talk about completing ‘Raintree County’. Releasing the film to the public meant a promotional campaign and everyone wanted to know if people would turn out to see Montgomery Clift after the crash.

Finishing the Movie
Montgomery Clift returns to the set of ‘Raintree County’ to complete the picture, but could be endure the set and facing the cameras. With his body still healing the director had to take special care to shoot him at the right angle and the right distance.

After the crash. Montgomery Clift has to extricated from the crash site and face surgery and months of recovery. Some were not sure he’d survive and once he did he wondered if his career was over.

The Crash
In May 1956 the cast of Raintree County was due to head off for location shooting. Before the trip Elizabeth Taylor hosted a small dinner party and included Monty as one of her guests. The evening would have tragic consequences after Monty crashed his car on the drive home.

Filming the Movie
Raintree County would be one of three films starring Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift. The epic was intended to be MGM’s second Gone with the Wind starring Hollywood’s most glamorous duo. The feature would be marred with issues, but the friendship of its stars would stand the test of time.
